Shevchenko: Russia backs Azerbaijan-Turkiye ties

I would not say that there are people in Russia who are confusing Azerbaijan. Traditionally, we have certain diaspora lobbies whose power is greatly exaggerated. At least they could not do anything with Armenia. Pashinyan continues the line of rapprochement with Turkiye and Azerbaijan. And this line, by the way, is supported by President Putin. In general, this issue (the deterioration of relations - ed.) is not seriously exaggerated in Russia. I see from the general tone of the Russian authorities that they want to resolve this conflict as soon as possible.

Axar.az reports that Russian journalist Maxim Shevchenko said this in an interview with the Caucasus Bureau.

“The tone of assessment in Azerbaijan is set by the President of Azerbaijan. This is a more serious issue, and of course, the President of Azerbaijan not only has the right but also fulfills his duty. Because the Azerbaijani plane crashed tragically, Azerbaijani citizens died, and I think there can be no questions about this. The questions asked by President Aliyev are issues of national security of fundamental importance.

"I have always been a supporter of good relations between Russia and Azerbaijan. Based on this and if we evaluate all the problems as a whole, I would say that there are a lot of questions that require solutions. More specifically, these questions require dialogue at the level of presidents, and there have always been very good personal relations, very good dialogue between our presidents," he said.
