The US may prevent Russia from being prosecuted for its intervention in Ukraine.

Axar.az informs that the Telegraph newspaper reported this, citing Western officials.

The publication recalled that at a meeting of the "core group" of countries preparing a Nuremberg-style tribunal to try Russian President Vladimir Putin for war crimes, US representatives refused to call Russia an "aggressor".

In addition, Washington also does not want to co-author a UN statement supporting the territorial integrity of Ukraine and demanding that Russia withdraw its troops from Ukrainian territory:

"The Trump administration also refused to sign a G7 statement to mark the third anniversary of the conflict that would have labeled Russia an "aggressor" in the war with Ukraine. The US president blamed Ukraine for starting the war, called Volodymyr Zelensky a dictator, and insisted on Russia being reinstated into the alliance of industrialized nations.

Thus, European officials are concerned that Trump's benign stance toward Putin could lead to the Russian leader being pardoned for his crimes in Ukraine."
