The US Supreme Court rejected Donald Trump’s attempt to freeze nearly $2 billion in foreign aid payments, upholding a lower court ruling that mandated the payments for completed contracts.

Axar.az reports that the 5-4 decision ensured that funds for aid contracts with USAID and the US State Department would be resumed.

Trump had initially imposed a 90-day freeze in January, disrupting global aid programs.

A district judge ordered payments by February 26, but the Trump administration challenged the ruling. Conservative justices dissented, with Justice Alito criticizing the decision, but Amy Coney Barrett sided with the liberal justices.
