Refugees in Kenya’s Kakuma camp clashed with police

Refugees in Kenya’s Kakuma camp clashed with police after learning that their food rations would be cut due to funding shortages.

Axar.az, citing the Guardian, reports that the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) announced allocations would drop to 40% of the basic minimum ration, following a US aid freeze that removed over half of its $9.7 billion budget.

Protesters, holding empty pots and signs, demanded more food. Police used tear gas to disperse them, injuring four refugees and a local official.

The UNHCR expressed concern over the cuts, while Kenya’s interior ministry warned of the severe impact on the country’s ability to support 800,000 refugees.
