The Kremlin seeks to prolong negotiations on halting the war in Ukraine as much as possible to seize more Ukrainian territory. They believe Washington will not be concerned about where the border line is drawn.
Axar.az informs The Moscow Times reported this, citing four sources familiar with the Kremlin's position.
"Right now, time is on our side, and we will try to use it to the fullest," the publication quoted a Russian diplomat as saying.
The report recalls that Russian leader Vladimir Putin told U.S. President Donald Trump during talks that he accepted a general 30-day ceasefire proposal but emphasized that "nuances" are crucial for Moscow. This suggests that Russia will insist on maximalist demands before laying down its arms.
The detailed discussion of these "nuances" has been assigned to Russian representatives.
Notably, Russian and U.S. representatives held a nearly 13-hour meeting in Riyadh yesterday. The statement resulting from the meeting is expected to be released today by the White House and the Kremlin.
