Prime Minister Ali Asadov met with To Lam, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), who is on a state visit to Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, Ali Asadov emphasized the importance of the talks held between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and CPV General Secretary To Lam as part of the visit. It was expressed with confidence that these discussions, along with the signing of a substantial package of bilateral agreements covering various areas of cooperation, would open a new chapter in the history of intergovernmental relations between the two friendly countries.
It was emphasized that Azerbaijan–Vietnam relations have very old and rich traditions.
The foundation of bilateral relations was laid by the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, and Vietnam’s first President, Ho Chi Minh. President Ho Chi Minh’s visit to Azerbaijan in 1959 and Heydar Aliyev’s visit to Vietnam in 1983 marked the beginning of friendship between the two nations.
It was especially noted that after Heydar Aliyev’s visit, the Soviet leadership provided economic and scientific-technical assistance to Vietnam, and thousands of Azerbaijani specialists were sent to the country to help restore its infrastructure and oil industry in the post-war period.
It was emphasized that during the Soviet era, nearly 5,000 Vietnamese citizens studied in Azerbaijan.
During To Lam’s visit, the significance of the exhibition and the unveiling of a bust dedicated to Ho Chi Minh at the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University was highlighted.
It was stated that by continuing the legacy left by Heydar Aliyev and Ho Chi Minh, the current leadership of both countries is demonstrating strong political will to strengthen friendly relations.
In particular, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit to Vietnam in 2014 made a significant contribution to the development of relations and the enhancement of trust-based cooperation.
The satisfaction with the effective cooperation between Azerbaijan and Vietnam, both bilaterally and within international organizations in multilateral formats, was expressed.
The level of dialogue and effective cooperation between the New Azerbaijan Party and the Communist Party of Vietnam was highly appreciated. It was noted that the ruling parties have always maintained friendly relations and have played an important role in strengthening mutual trust between the two countries.
During the meeting, the future development of Azerbaijan-Vietnam cooperation in various areas, including economic-trade, investment, oil and gas, cultural-humanitarian, and other sectors, was discussed.
