Five people have been killed and one woman injured in a major fire at a pyrotechnics manufacturing plant in Russia’s Yaroslavl region.

Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, that according to preliminary reports, a short circuit caused the fire, which spread to stored firecrackers and triggered an explosion. Two buildings at the facility were engulfed in flames.

More than 100 emergency workers and 40 pieces of equipment were involved in firefighting operations. The blaze was eventually contained, while emergency crews continued working at the site.

Rescuers found the bodies of five victims while clearing the collapsed structures. Another woman suffered a leg injury and was taken to hospital.
