At least 81 people have been killed and 46 injured after days of heavy rain and flooding in India’s northern Uttar Pradesh state.

Axar.az reports, citing Euronews, that three days of heavy rainfall caused flooding across several districts, damaging more than 1,000 houses.

Schools were closed in parts of the state, including the capital Lucknow, while rescue teams evacuated residents from flooded areas to safer locations.

Officials advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel through waterlogged areas and stay away from fast-flowing rivers, streams and drains.

Flooding also affected the eastern state of Odisha, where more than 75,000 people were evacuated.

In neighbouring Nepal, 21 people died in weather-related incidents between Thursday and Sunday. Five people remained missing and five others were injured, while floods and landslides damaged 194 houses.
