NATO confirms unwavering support for Ukraine

NATO confirms its unwavering support for Ukraine, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said while opening a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission in Brussels on Wednesday.

"Our meeting is another confirmation of NATO’s unwavering support for Ukraine. At the Warsaw Summit in July, we adopted a Comprehensive Assistance Package for Ukraine," he said. "Our meeting today will provide an opportunity to review the implementation of the package and to receive an update about the Ukrainian government’s reform agenda," Stoltenberg added.

According to NATO chief, the NATO-Ukraine Commission will also discuss the security situation in the country which, in his words, "remains serious and which hinders progress toward a political settlement to the conflict." He reiterated that "NATO Allies continue to support Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and we support reforms that are essential for a better future for the people of Ukraine."

The meeting is taking place during the last NATO ministerial meeting to be held this year, Ukraine is represented by Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin.

On July 9, a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission was held during the NATO summit in Warsaw, the meeting’s participants adopted a Comprehensive Assistance Package for Ukraine. As Stoltenberg said on the occasion, the package included some trust funds for financing cyber security programs, military logistics and programs on the rehabilitation of the wounded military servicemen, a program in demining in Donbass was planned to be included. The package also contains all the current cooperation projects initiated during the presidency of Viktor Yushchenko and Viktor Yanukovich.
