Bulgaria adopts the euro as its official currency

Bulgaria has adopted the euro as its official currency as of January 1, 2026.

Axar.az informs that Bulgarian media reported on this.

According to the information, this happened almost 19 years after the country joined the EU. Thus, Bulgaria became the 21st member of the eurozone to adopt the euro as its official currency. The conversion rate was set at 1.95583 leva per euro. Both currencies will remain in circulation throughout January. From February 1, the euro will become the sole legal tender in Bulgaria.
