On May 4, 1994, Azerbaijan joined the Partnership for Peace Program of NATO and established a reliable and mutually beneficial partnership with the Alliance.

"Azerbaijan is determined to continue working with NATO to maintain peace and security in the Euro - Atlantic area and beyond."

Azerbaijan began to cooperate with NATO when it joined the consultative forum of the Council of the North Atlantic Cooperation in 1992, established jointly with some of Central and Eastern European countries was renamed the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council in 1997. On May 4, 1994, the Republic of Azerbaijan joined the NATO Partnership for Peace (PFP) Program.

Within the framework of cooperation with NATO, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry is fruitfully using the Partnership for Peace Program, the Individual Partnership Operational Plan, the Planning and Analysis Process, the Individual Partnership Cooperation Program, the Operational Opportunity Concept, the Partnership Responsibility Program, the Military Education Expansion Program, the Scientific Program for Peace and other vital mechanisms of cooperation.
