The friend of En.axar.az, famous photo – correspondent from Sweden Hady Kareka has made a photo project about children engagement in middle east.

Kareka told about it to En.axar.az:

“The pictures have spread in many countries, where the reactions were positive. The idea was to convey a message that it was time to end child engagement. I have tried to describe the moments on a girl's wedding day. This happened many years ago. I was there and she was worried and scared.

This project has been made for all child victims in the world, it was not easy to implement such a project. The risk is great that some believe that I just want to provoke and offend them.

Kareka also mentioned that, yet, child engagement is still a common phenomenon in many countries of the world. This often leads to social and mental problems, especially for minors who are left at an early age.

“Child marriage often occurs in poor areas where there is no knowledge of the risks associated with this. Families who do not realize or understand the danger of marrying a girl at a young age. Serious mental disorders are common among minors because of the trauma they are exposed to in premature marriage. They are not ready for this sudden change in life, where the transition from childhood to adulthood is direct, without going through normal stages of growth.

One in five girls in the world is married. More than 30,000 girls are forced to marry every day. Child marriage often means losing control of one's own life. This work is done in collaboration with UNICEF and Unchained is the only organization dedicated to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and advocacy” – he added.
