Once a key partner in Beijing’s Middle East strategy, Iran is now seen as unstable, economically strained, and unable to keep up with geopolitical shifts—especially after its recent clashes with Israel and U.S. strikes exposed its military and diplomatic vulnerabilities.
Chinese analysts believe the Iranian regime is losing control over its regional proxy network and is edging toward an internal crisis, making it a less reliable strategic bet.
As a result, China is subtly pivoting toward stronger ties with Israel and Gulf Arab states to protect its own economic and energy interests, signaling that Iran may no longer be central to its long-term plans.
