Baku hopes US will fully repeal Amendment 907

Another historically and symbolically significant aspect of the visit to the U.S. is that the order by the U.S. President on the temporary suspension of the application of Section 907 of the ‘Freedom Support Act’ was signed in the presence of President Ilham Aliyev.

Axar.az informs Head of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Aykhan Hajizada, said in an interview with APА.

“It is well known to everyone that this amendment, adopted in 1992, prohibited the provision of U.S. government assistance to Azerbaijan and was an unjust step that carried the character of open discrimination against our country. This amendment has been a factor creating difficulties in our bilateral relations.

“This step taken by the U.S. President reflects the true nature of the Azerbaijan-U.S. partnership and further strengthens mutual trust and strategic cooperation between the two countries. This step is an indication of the beginning of a new era of cooperation with the U.S. We are hopeful that, taking into account the prospects for the development of relations between Azerbaijan and the U.S. and our country’s growing role in the wider region, the U.S. side will take concrete steps toward the complete repeal of this amendment,” Aykhan Hajizada stated.
