An explosion has occurred at an oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk, Russia.

Axar.az reports that the city’s mayor, Radmir Belyayev, confirmed the incident.

He said emergency response teams were deployed to put out the fire that broke out after the explosion.

Russian media report that 13 people were injured in the blast, seven of whom were taken to hospital.

Preliminary reports suggest the explosion was caused by a technical malfunction in equipment at one of the facility’s units.
