The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan (MFA) has stated on November 8, Victory Day.
Axar.az reports that the statement stated that this magnificent history, engraved in the hearts of Azerbaijanis on November 8, is not only a celebration of the glorious victory won in the 44-day Patriotic War, but also an eternal symbol of national strength, determination, and unity.
It was noted that five years ago, thanks to the determined leadership of the President of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, and the unparalleled valor of the armed forces, the nearly thirty-year-long military occupation of Armenia was ended and the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan was restored.
"The Patriotic War, which reached its culmination with a glorious victory on November 8, 2020, when the city of Shusha, the pearl of the Karabakh region and the cultural center of Azerbaijan, was liberated, became a decisive moment in the history of our people. This victory was achieved thanks to the heroism of our martyrs and veterans, whose courage and self-sacrifice will always be remembered and appreciated," the statement emphasized.
The statement, which emphasized that Azerbaijan has been experiencing an unprecedented period of transformation and revival over the past five years, noted that through the "Great Return" program, the country has directed its unwavering will and vast resources to the implementation of the huge task of restoring the territories liberated from occupation.
"Cities and villages that were once in ruins are being rebuilt using modern infrastructure, smart technologies, and green energy solutions. Ensuring the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons to their homelands is the most vivid manifestation of the supreme goal and essence of our Victory. Such large-scale reconstruction activities serve not only the restoration of our lands, but also the construction of a sustainable future for the inhabitants of these territories," the Foreign Ministry said.
The statement emphasized that Azerbaijan, having secured its territorial integrity and sovereignty on the battlefield, is currently consistently promoting sustainable peace and regional cooperation in the South Caucasus, and noted that it has been playing an active role in the process of normalizing relations with the Republic of Armenia based on the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity for the sake of regional stability, cooperation and sustainable development.
The statement, which touched upon the historical significance of the Summit held in Washington on August 8, 2025, between the leaders of Azerbaijan, the United States of America, and Armenia, said: "Real political will and constructive steps are needed to turn the positive impulses created by the Washington Summit into tangible progress. In this regard, to properly assess such an important opportunity and sign a peace agreement, Armenia must fully eliminate the territorial claims against Azerbaijan contained in its constitution and respect new regional realities."
"November 8 - Victory Day is a vivid example of the strength and determination of Azerbaijan. Today, in addition to remembering our victorious history, it is a day when we look with hope to the future, which includes progress and regional cooperation. The invincible spirit of our people in the face of difficulties and the unshakable solidarity formed during the war will serve as a beacon for future generations.
On this historic day, we respectfully remember the courage and sacrifice of our martyrs and veterans, the unity of our people, and express our deepest respect.
Happy Victory Day!" - the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded its statement.
