Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is seeking to arrange a meeting with US President Donald Trump around the time of a Turkiye–US World Cup soccer match in Los Angeles next month.

Axar.az reports, citing Bloomberg, that Erdogan is planning to attend the match scheduled for June 25 in Inglewood, California, and is attempting to coordinate a bilateral meeting with Trump during the same visit.

Their potential sit-down would come less than two weeks before Turkiye hosts the NATO summit in Ankara, at a time when there are growing indications that Washington may be scaling down its role in supporting the military alliance in Europe.

It should be noted that the leaders last met in September of the previous year.
