Analyst on the Middle East and Senior Advisor at Gulf State Analytics Dr. Theodore Karasik told to Axar.az while commenting on John Bolton's visit to the Caucasus:

“US National Security advisor John Bolton's visit to the Caucasus is meant to untangle the Armenian side of the Nagorno Karabakh issue after a few months of political confusion in Yerevan. Bolton seeks to boost the position of Baku the given the necessity of Azerbaijan in the larger geopolitical picture.

Russia of course is watching carefully to see if the US National Security advisor has any carrots to give out at this time. Of course Bolton trip comes at the same time as sanctions against Iran or ramping up. The ability for Bolton to convince these countries to go along with Iranian sanctions is part of the travel objective and to enlist their further support for next steps regarding the Islamic Republic.”
