Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will pay visits to Cuba, Suriname and Brazil on July 23-27, Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Wednesday.

"He [Lavrov] will pay official visits to Cuba on July 23-24 and Suriname on July 26-27, as well as will take part in a meeting of foreign ministers of the BRICS countries, which will take place in Brazil on July 25-26," the diplomat said.

According to Zakharova, Lavrov will hold talks with his Cuban counterpart on July 24 in Havana, where the parties will discuss the most pressing issues of the bilateral, regional and international agendas. "A number of meetings with the Cuban leadership is planned," she added.

Zakharova also announced that a meeting between Lavrov and his Brazilian counterpart will take place on the sidelines of the BRICS foreign ministers’ conference on July 26. The meeting will thoroughly review bilateral cooperation, conducted as part of strategic partnership. According to the diplomat, the BRICS foreign ministers’ conference will address "the issues on the global and regional agendas, ensuring peace and security, settlement of acute international conflicts." The meeting will "focus on the issues of coordinating approaches of BRICS states on key international platforms, boosting efforts to jointly counter terrorism and transnational organized crime and ensuring international information security," Zakharova underscored.

She also pointed out that the talks with the Surinamese foreign minister will take place in Paramaribo on July 27. "The parties will analyze the prospects to further expand bilateral ties in various areas," Zakharova said, adding that a protocol meeting with the president of the republic is scheduled.
