Speculations about Moscow proposing to Yerevan to completely remove its border guards from the territory of Armenia do not correspond to reality.

Axar.az reports that this was said by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova.

"I see a lot of speculations about the meeting between the heads of Russia and Armenia on May 8. Speculations about Russia's alleged proposal to completely withdraw its border guards from the territory of Armenia do not correspond to reality. Some sources claim that the withdrawal of the border guards is carried out within the framework of the agreement between Baku and Yerevan on the non-deployment of representatives of third countries on the joint border. This is all speculation. The reality is that during the negotiations of the leaders of Russia and Armenia, the withdrawal of Russian border guards from a number of regions of Armenia bordering Azerbaijan was discussed at the request of Yerevan, in connection with the implementation of several previously set tasks," he said.

It should be noted that the Armenian opposition spread the claim that the withdrawal of Russian border guards from the border with Azerbaijan was Baku's demand. However, the deployment of Russian border guards on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border occurred after the agreement of November 10, 2020, and this was not an international agreement, but a verbal agreement - more precisely, it was at the request of Nikol Pashinyan. Currently, Russian border guards are retreating from the territory that is not bound by the treaty.
