Azerbaijan has invited Armenia to the COP29 Climate Summit.
Axar.az reports with reference to "The National" publication that Hikmet Hajiyev, the adviser on foreign policy issues of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, said this in a statement to journalists.
He said that an invitation was sent to Yerevan.
The invitation was issued against the background of the peace process aimed at ending the decades-long conflict between Baku and Yerevan, which still do not have official diplomatic relations.
"Mukhtar Babayev (President of COP29, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan) sent an invitation letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia. We have sent an official invitation. This is the first time I am saying this to the foreign media," said H. Hajiyev.
He noted that sending this letter at a time when there are no official diplomatic relations between the two countries is an indicator of Azerbaijan's "good will" and "inclusive approach".
H. Hajiyev said that COP29 is a global effort and decisive negotiations "exceed the borders of Armenia and Azerbaijan".
"Now is the time for the Armenian government to make a decision," Hajiyev said.
It should be noted that the COP29 Climate Summit will be held in Baku from November 11 to 22.
