Iran's position on Zangezur corridor remains unchanged

In principle, Iran is not against a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan; however, it does not want the inclusion of the Zangezur corridor in this agreement.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Iran expert Garik Misakyan in an interview with Armenian media.

“This agreement should not undermine the geopolitical interests of Armenia and Iran. The Zangezur corridor and Turkiye potentially becoming a mediator in Armenia-Azerbaijan relations are concerns for Iran,” he said.

He claimed that Iran's position on the Zangezur corridor has not changed, as evidenced by Iran's reactions to Russia:

“Russian Security Council Secretary Patrushev visited Iran, and among other issues, the corridor was discussed. According to Iranian media, the Russian side supports and respects Iran's policy regarding corridors. Thus, there has been no change in stance regarding the Zangezur corridor.”

Garik Misakyan noted that the situation around Iran is currently tense (referring to serious blows to Iran's proxy forces in the Middle East, particularly the death of Hezbollah's leader), suggesting that Iran may divert its attention from this region at this stage.
