Uzbek midfielder breaks World Cup record

Uzbekistan midfielder Abbosbek Fayzullayev has set a FIFA World Cup record after scoring against Colombia in his team’s opening group-stage match at the 2026 tournament.

Axar.az reports, citing Uzbek media, that Fayzullayev became the shortest player in the 21st century to score a headed goal at a World Cup.

The 167-centimeter-tall midfielder found the net with a header during Uzbekistan’s 3-1 defeat to Colombia.

The previous record belonged to Uruguayan midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta, who stands 173 centimeters tall.

Fayzullayev scored with a header in the 60th minute of the match, marking a historic achievement in World Cup history.
