Rare bearded vulture filmed in Zangezur National Park - Video

Rare footage of the bearded vulture (lammergeier), which is included in Azerbaijan’s “Red Book,” has been recorded in Zangezur National Park.

Axar.az reports, citing Unikal, that photographer Saleh Bakhshiyev filmed this animal living in the steep rocky areas. He said he spent three nights in a cave in Zangezur National Park to capture the vulture on video.

The bird, which measures 95–125 cm in length, can reach up to 3 meters when its wings are fully spread. Its weight ranges from 4.5 to 7.5 kilograms. It nests in steep cliffs, with its breeding season at the beginning of winter. Due to its uniqueness, it is considered one of Azerbaijan’s most valuable birds of prey, and hunting it is prohibited. It is protected in Zagatala and Ilisu State Nature Reserves, as well as Shahdag, Zangezur, and Goygol National Parks.

The footage is now being presented.
