Alexander Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, has congratulated several countries, including Azerbaijan, on the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Second World War.
Axar.az reports that the Belarusian leader’s press service confirmed the news.
Congratulatory letters were sent to the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the country’s first President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Chairman of the People’s Council Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, as well as to the peoples of Moldova and Ukraine.
In his address, Lukashenko emphasized that the sacred Victory Day on May 9 is forever etched in the memory of the peoples of the former Soviet Union, and that the heroism of those who fought is not forgotten even decades later.
He also expressed confidence that the friendship forged through the hardships of war remains a strong foundation for good-neighborly relations and for expanding broad cooperation among these nations.
