Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Russia, Rahman Mustafayev, expressed his gratitude to the Russian authorities, public, and residents who extended their condolences regarding the tragic crash of the Azerbaijani passenger plane.

Axar.az reports that the ambassador made these remarks during a meeting with media representatives in St. Petersburg as part of the informal CIS summit held in Leningrad region.

During the meeting, Mustafayev noted that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev was forced to cancel his participation in the summit due to the tragic event.

“The President had to return. The President's plane turned back in the air and returned to Baku, after which a meeting was held regarding the incident. A special commission was created to investigate the circumstances of the tragedy. A one-day mourning was declared in the country,” the ambassador stated.
