German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender visited Icherisheher, a world cultural heritage site, on April 2.

Axar.az reports that the high-ranking guest's visit to Icherisheher began with a visit to the historical architectural monument, the Maiden Tower.

The German President was informed about the history of the construction of the fortress walls.

It was noted that the Maiden Tower, founded in the 7th-6th centuries BC, was restored in the 12th century. The monument, which is 28 meters high and 16-16.5 meters in diameter, consists of a cylindrical main fortress and a large supporting structure adjacent to it from the south.

During the visit, the German President and his wife were provided with detailed information about the "Icherisheher" State Historical and Architectural Reserve, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, and the repair, improvement, and restoration works carried out here. It was noted that rare historical architectural monuments of different centuries are preserved in the territory of Icherisheher.

Then, the distinguished guest was informed about the Magsud Ibrahimbeyov Creative Center, established in memory of the People's Writer Magsud Ibrahimbeyov.

The German President was also informed about the Shirvanshahs Palace Complex, a masterpiece of medieval Eastern architecture and a historical and architectural monument of world importance.

The acquaintance with the Old City made a pleasant impression on President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender.
