Father-and-son duos who played in different eras are among the most interesting family stories in World Cup history.
One of the well-known figures of Italian football, Cesare Maldini, took part in the 1962 World Cup. His son Paolo Maldini later represented Italy at the World Cup in 1990, 1994, 1998, and 2002.

Former Uruguay national team footballer Pablo Forlan played in the 1966 and 1974 World Cups. His son Diego Forlan, meanwhile, represented the country in the 2002, 2010, and 2014 tournaments.

Belgian Jan Verheyen took part in the 1970 World Cup. His son Gert Verheyen later represented Belgium at the 1998 and 2002 World Cups.

One of Uruguay’s well-known football figures, Julio Montero Castillo, played in the 1970 and 1974 World Cups. His son Paolo Montero also took part in the World Cup in 2002.
