Workers at the Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou, China, where the iPhone 17 is manufactured, face harsh working conditions. Workers are forced to work long hours and often without days off for meager wages.

The publication cited a report by the non-profit organization China Labor Watch (CLW). According to the report, the lack of vacation and rest time has also turned the working environment at the factory into slavery.
More than 50% of the workers at the factory are registered as seasonal workers, and their number is about 200,000. This far exceeds the 10% limit set by Chinese law: "Despite previous CLW reports on the mass registration of seasonal workers, the situation remains unchanged."
Workers often work 60 hours a week. Some even extend their workweek to 75 hours, spending weekends completely without rest. Meanwhile, the basic salary is only 2,100-2,400 yuan per month. "Employees are forced to take on overtime to increase their income. But even if they work beyond normal working hours, the monthly salary rarely exceeds 3,000 yuan. Payment delays are also becoming commonplace," the publication wrote.
Interestingly, seasonal workers are generally treated like slaves and are not provided with social benefits such as paid vacation or sick leave. The Financial Times journalists were able to talk to several workers who confirmed the scandalous information in the CLW report.
