On December 25 of last year, the crash site of the Azerbaijan Airlines "Embraer 190" aircraft, which was operating the Baku – Grozny flight, was demonstrated on a simulator in Aktau, Kazakhstan.
Axar.az reports that AzTV broadcasted a video clip about this.
Initially, the training captain, Vugar Mehdizade, explained the reason why the "Embraer 190" aircraft headed to Aktau:
"Why did the aircraft operating the Baku-Grozny flight head to Aktau, and why did the incident occur there? Because the area is completely flat. There are no mountainous regions. If the pilots had directed the aircraft to an airport located in a mountainous area, it would have been the wrong decision. The aircraft was uncontrollable. The captain's decision to head to Aktau was completely correct. They made it to Kazakhstan in a very difficult situation."
Later, the pilot, Tural Shahverdiyev, who had been controlling the aircraft three days before the crash, discussed the choice made by the pilots: "The aircraft captain thought about making a normal landing in Aktau. He circled several times in the air to make the most appropriate landing. But no one knows exactly what happened at the last moment."
