Pakistan's largest oil refining company, Cnergyico, will import 1 million barrels of crude oil from the United States in October.
Axar.az reports that this was stated by Osama Qureshi, deputy head of Cnergyico.
He said that the oil batch was purchased from global commodities trader Vitol:
"This is a test batch as part of our long-term agreement with Vitol. If it turns out to be commercially viable and profitable, we will be able to import at least one batch per month."
Reuters, however, emphasized that the oil agreement comes months after US President Donald Trump threatened Pakistan's exports with serious tariffs, which prompted Islamabad to expand energy and trade ties with Washington:
"Pakistan's first purchase of American oil is a significant change in Islamabad's long-standing dependence on Middle Eastern hydrocarbon suppliers."
