Hungary will keep blocking Ukraine’s EU membership talks

Hungary will not lift its veto on opening negotiation chapters for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.

Axar.az informs acordng to Ukrainian media, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said this at a press conference after an informal meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.

He once again criticized the bloc’s support for Ukraine and claimed that most EU countries were “not interested in the success of peace negotiations.”

Szijjarto said Budapest faces “strong pressure” to accelerate Ukraine’s accession and to back new sanctions against Russia, but vowed his government would “protect the country and its economy from this pressure, as well as the Hungarian people from the negative consequences of the war.”
