EU may impose tariffs if China doesn’t address trade deficit

If Beijing cannot resolve the trade deficit between the European Union (EU) and China, the EU may consider imposing tariffs on Chinese goods.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron in an interview with Les Echos.

“I told them that if they do not respond, we Europeans will be forced in the coming months to take strong measures and, as in the case with the U.S., suspend cooperation—for example, by imposing customs duties on Chinese goods,” Macron said.

He added that he has already discussed the possibility of such measures with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

At the same time, Macron emphasized that forming a unified European front on this issue would be difficult.
