Venezuelan airspace will reopen to commercial travel

U.S. President Donald Trump said he has ordered the reopening of Venezuela’s commercial airspace, paving the way for Americans to travel to the country again after years of suspension.

Axar.az, citing AP, reports that Trump said he instructed U.S. transportation and military officials to act immediately and told Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, that Americans would soon be able to visit safely.

While Venezuela has not commented, at least one U.S. airline, American Airlines, said it plans to resume flights, pending security reviews and approvals.

The move comes as Washington takes initial steps toward restoring diplomatic ties after the ouster of Nicolás Maduro, even as the U.S. State Department continues to warn Americans not to travel to Venezuela.
