U.S. storm grounds flights, forces state of emergency

A historic winter storm is battering the U.S. East Coast, with blizzard warnings affecting more than 40 million people from Maryland to Maine. The Northeast could see up to 2 feet of snow, with winds of 25–70 mph creating whiteout conditions and extremely dangerous travel.

Axar.az, citing CBS, reports that governors in eight states, including New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, have declared states of emergency, imposing travel bans, closing schools, and deploying the National Guard.

Major cities such as New York City and Boston have already experienced heavy snowfall, with snow rates of 1–3 inches per hour and widespread power outages affecting over 300,000 homes and businesses.

The storm has grounded mass transit and forced thousands of flight cancellations, with airlines like Delta, American, JetBlue, and United suspending services and allowing passengers to rebook.

Officials urged residents to stay indoors, avoid all nonessential travel, and prepare for further disruptions as the storm continues through Monday.
