Fighting also occurred near the Torkham border crossing, prompting evacuations of refugee camps on both sides. Mortars from Afghanistan landed in Pakistani villages, but no civilian casualties were reported.
Tensions remain high along the 2,611-km Durand Line, with a history of deadly clashes, previous airstrikes, and unresolved ceasefire agreements.
