WHO warns about ‘multiple attacks on health’ in Iran

The World Health Organization has warned of “multiple attacks on health” facilities in Iran in recent days.

Axar.az reports that WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a post on X that several incidents had been reported in the capital, Tehran, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

He noted that the Pasteur Institute of Iran suffered significant damage and is no longer able to provide health services. The Delaram Sina Psychiatric Hospital was also heavily damaged in a strike on March 29, while the Tofigh Daru pharmaceutical facility was hit on March 31.

Since March 1, the WHO has verified more than 20 attacks on healthcare in Iran, resulting in at least nine deaths, including a healthcare worker specializing in infectious diseases and a member of the Iranian Red Crescent Society.

Attacks have also been reported outside Tehran. On March 21, an explosion near Imam Ali Hospital in Andimeshk, Khuzestan province, forced the evacuation of the facility and the suspension of its services.

The WHO warned that the ongoing conflict is disrupting healthcare delivery and endangering medical staff, patients, and civilians at health facilities.
