US likely to extend Russian oil waiver

The United States is likely to extend a waiver allowing the purchase of some sanctioned Russian oil and petroleum products.

Axar.az reports, citing Reuters, that the Trump administration is expected to renew the waiver as early as Friday in an effort to stabilize global fuel prices amid the ongoing regional war involving Iran.

The U.S. Treasury had issued a 30-day waiver in mid-March permitting limited Russian oil transactions at sea, which is set to expire on April 11.

The extension is part of Washington’s broader effort to manage global energy markets, which have been disrupted by the conflict and rising oil prices.
