US warships cross Hormuz for first time since war began

Several U.S. Navy warships crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday without coordination with Iran.

Axar.az reports, citing Axios, this was the first time U.S. warships had crossed the strait since the beginning of the war, a U.S. official and other sources said.

According to the report, the operation was aimed at increasing confidence for commercial vessels to pass through the waterway and came as peace talks between the two sides began in Pakistan.

A U.S. official said the ships crossed the strait from east to west into the Gulf and later returned through the strait to the Arabian Sea.

Iranian state media reportedly described the crossing as a ceasefire violation and said Tehran threatened to attack the ships. However, a U.S. official stated that no such warning was received.

It should be recalled that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz was a key provision of the U.S.–Iran ceasefire agreement.

Today, representatives of the United States and Iran are holding talks in Islamabad.
