EU lags behind Russia in weapons production

Russia is producing twice as many artillery shells and nearly four times more cruise missiles than the European Union.

Axar.az reports, according to EU Commissioner for Defence Andrius Kubilius, during a hearing of the European Parliament’s Security and Defence Committee, the European Union is still lagging behind Russia in key categories of weapons production.

Kubilius said the scale of the challenge remains significant, noting that Russia continues to outproduce the EU despite increased European investment in the defense sector.

He provided comparative figures for last year, stating that Russia produced 1,100 cruise missiles compared to 300 in the EU, 900 ballistic missiles compared to none in the EU, and 4 million artillery shells compared to 2 million in the EU. He also noted that Russia produced 3,500 infantry fighting vehicles, while the EU produced 500.

“If we truly want to deter Russia, we must surpass it in production. That means producing, producing, and producing again,” Kubilius said.
