Flood triggers mass evacuation in Turkiye

Heavy rainfall over the past week in Turkiye’s Tokat province has caused water levels in the Yeshilirmak River to rise.

Axar.az reports that the Almus dam reservoir—used for agriculture and energy production—has overflowed as a result.

According to the report, large areas of farmland have been flooded. In Turhal district, where schools have been closed for three days due to the risk of flooding, emergency measures are ongoing. Fifteen neighborhoods and seven villages have been evacuated, with residents relocated to shelters and hotels.

It was also reported that two bridges on the river were found to be obstructing water flow and increasing flood risk, and they have since been dismantled.

No casualties or injuries have been reported so far.
