Trump hints at move that could please Turkiye

U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested he may take a step that would make Turkiye "very happy" amid discussions over Ankara's request to purchase F-35 fighter jets and aircraft engines.

Axar.az reports, citing foreign media, that speaking during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House, Trump was asked whether he planned to arrive in Turkiye with a "big gift bag" ahead of the upcoming NATO summit.

"Look, he's a member of NATO. Some people don't consider him a NATO member, but he really is. He's a strong member of NATO," Trump said, referring to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"Yeah, I'm probably going to do something that's going to make him very happy," he added.

Trump also praised Russia, China, and Turkiye for staying out of the recent U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran.

"He [Erdogan] stayed out of the war. He was a prime candidate to go into the war with Iran, maybe even on Iran's side, because he's not a big fan of Israel, as you know. I asked him to stay out, and he stayed out," Trump said.

The U.S. president said he appreciated the decision by Moscow, Beijing, and Ankara not to become directly involved in the conflict.
