US airstrike kills senior ISIS leader in Syria

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces carried out a precision airstrike in northwestern Syria on June 19 that killed senior Islamic State leader Ali Husayn al-‘Ulaywi.

Axar.az reports, citing CENTCOM, the strike was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt and eliminate militants who pose a threat to the United States and its allies.

“CENTCOM and our partners remain committed to rooting out remaining remnants of ISIS to ensure its enduring defeat,” CENTCOM commander Gen. Brad Cooper said.

“We will continue to defend the U.S. homeland, our service members, and allies and partners across the region,” he added.

CENTCOM said it continues to work with regional partners to prevent the resurgence of ISIS and maintain pressure on the group's remaining networks.
