Finland opens door to nuclear weapons deployment

The deployment of nuclear weapons in Finland could begin at air bases in Rovaniemi, located 147 kilometers from the Russian border.

Axar.az reports that, citing Izvestia, President Alexander Stubb has approved amendments allowing the import and storage of nuclear weapons in the country.

The Russian Embassy stated that that it has not yet seen any direct signs of preparations for the deployment of the weapons. However, the air base is expected to receive F-35A fighter jets capable of carrying U.S. B61-12 nuclear bombs.

Moreover, Helsinki is interested in a nuclear deterrence program under France's umbrella. Norway and Denmark have already joined the initiative.
