The opening ceremony of Turkic World Week, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Turkology Congress, is being held in Baku.
Axar.az reports that the event, which will run through July 3, will feature a series of international scientific and cultural programs.
Following the official opening, participants will attend a plenary session titled "The Turkic World as One Family: The Activities of International Turkic Cooperation Organizations for Common Goals," as well as panel discussions on "The Dynamics of the Development of Turkic Languages: Historical and Philological Perspectives" and "The Legacy of the First Turkology Congress: Cultural and Scientific Integration of Turkic Peoples."
A total of 215 guests from 20 countries are taking part in the event.
The week-long program of scientific and cultural events is being held in accordance with a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on October 22, 2025, marking the 100th anniversary of the First Turkology Congress.
Turkic World Week is jointly organized by Azerbaijan's Ministry of Culture, the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, and the Ministry of Science and Education, in partnership with the Organization of Turkic States, TURKSOY, Baku State University, Turkic Academy, and the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation.
The First Turkology Congress was first held in Baku in 1926. President Ilham Aliyev proposed commemorating its centenary during the 12th Summit of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States, held in Gabala on October 6–7 last year.
