U.S. dangles rewards for opening the Strait of Hormuz

The United States and Oman are seeking ways to persuade Iran to abandon its demand for transit fees on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Axar.az informs, according to WSJ, their main bargaining chip in the indirect talks has been an offer to unfreeze part of the roughly $100 billion in Iranian assets held abroad.

So far, however, Tehran has rejected the proposal, while its military leaders have renewed threats against vessels transiting one of the world's busiest shipping routes, the publication said.
