Erdogan praises Pakistan's role in U.S.-Iran agreement

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan praised Pakistan's role in helping secure the interim agreement between the United States and Iran, saying the deal allowed the world to "breathe a sigh of relief."

Axar.az reports, citing Turkish media, that Erdogan made the remarks during a joint press conference in Istanbul with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif following bilateral and delegation-level talks.

"First of all, the whole world breathed a sigh of relief thanks to the calm ensured by the Islamabad Memorandum," Erdogan said, referring to the Pakistan-mediated agreement between Washington and Tehran.

The Turkish president congratulated Sharif and the Pakistani people for their contribution to the negotiations.

"We have supported, and will continue to support, every step that contributes to reducing tensions in our region and resolving problems through diplomacy," Erdogan said.

During the press conference, Erdogan also extended his condolences over the bus accident in Pakistan's Balochistan province that claimed 40 lives on Friday.
