China to cancel 2,800 flights as Typhoon Bavi hits

Chinese airlines plan to cancel more than 2,800 domestic flights on July 12 as Typhoon Bavi continues to affect the country's eastern coast.

Axar.az reports, citing CCTV, that the passengers have been advised to closely monitor weather conditions and check the status of their flights, according to Chinese media.

As of the evening of July 11, Chinese carriers had already delayed more than 1,300 flights due to severe weather.

Typhoon Bavi made landfall in Zhejiang Province at 11:20 p.m. local time on July 11. Wind speeds reached 40 meters per second as the storm came ashore near the city of Taizhou.

Nearly 2 million people have been evacuated from eastern China.

Earlier, China's State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, along with authorities in Zhejiang and Fujian, raised the emergency response level for Typhoon Bavi from Level III to Level II. China's National Meteorological Center also issued its highest-level red alert for torrential rainfall.
