Pilot seriously injured in Essex airshow incident

A pilot was seriously injured after a light aircraft was damaged during a sold-out airshow in Essex, England, on Sunday.

Axar.az reports, citing British media, that emergency services were called to Stow Maries Aerodrome in Purleigh, near Maldon, at around 14:25 BST. During a low-level display, one of the Turbulent Team’s light aircraft was damaged, injuring its sole occupant, and the airshow was halted.

“The sole occupant of the aircraft has been taken to hospital with serious injuries,” an Essex Police spokesperson said.

The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed that paramedics attended the scene, while police said no other injuries had been reported.

A spokesperson for Stow Maries Aerodrome said the venue was cooperating with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch and emergency services, and that the site had been closed to the public.

“Those attending the event are urged to follow the instructions of organisers and emergency service personnel,” police said, adding that the public should avoid the area to allow emergency responders to work at the scene.

The cause of the incident has not yet been established.
