Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said Russia and Azerbaijan have overcome the crisis in their relations, and bilateral cooperation should now be further developed.

Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, that Shoigu made the remarks at a meeting of members of the Scientific and Expert Council’s Presidium of the Russian Security Council.

“We are pleased to note that the recent period of crisis in bilateral ties has been overcome through the joint efforts of Moscow and Baku. The common task now is to ensure the consistent development of Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation in line with the agreements reached by the leaders,” he said.

Shoigu emphasized that Russia believes relations with Azerbaijan should develop on the basis of the bilateral legal framework, including the Declaration on Allied Interaction signed at the highest level, as well as the principles of good-neighborliness and partnership.

“Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly spoken in favor of joint efforts in this direction,” he added.
